Ranking uses only what a subreddit raised on its own; brands that surfaced solely through our own search queries are listed separately and never ranked, because the query wording is our choice, not Reddit's. Each post counts once per brand no matter how many days it stays hot, so a long-running thread cannot inflate a brand. Brands whose names are ordinary English words are only counted when the post also shows a product context, so a few are undercounted rather than guessed at. A brand counts only when its name appears as a whole word in the title or body — substring matching produces false positives.
